I’m Lesa Evans, a passionate human who loves the world of staffing. Brick Elm is my company and is ever at your service. After 15 years of reading resumes and job descriptions to make the best possible connections between employers and candidates, I realize that it might just be closer to rocket science than I ever thought was possible. Special thanks goes to my mentor and friend Bob Mannina, who raised me right in the world of recruiting and continues to share his thoughts with me – both wise and other-wise!
How do I know which of you to spend time with in listening, coaching and preparing for an interview? This goes for both candidates and hiring managers, by the way. I honestly don’t know, and that’s the truth. Malcom Gladwell does a great job of describing decision making in his book “Blink”, and all I can figure is that I’ve been studying people and trying to figure them out my whole life. By the time I actually became a full-fledged recruiter, it seemed I had arrived at the absolute perfect career choice for me. In no other field I am aware of could I find a steady stream of people to meet along with stimuli that is both interesting and exhilarating. All this while providing an end game in every scenario to be a win for all parties involved. Add to that, I get to learn something new about a dizzying array of topics every single day. You all provide me with such opportunities and challenges to learn and consider new things and I appreciate it very much.
It’s true that not all of my candidates get the job(s) I pursue with them and it’s true that some roles take much (much!) longer to fill than anyone is comfortable discussing. But! No job is un-fillable and candidates go off to get the job they were supposed to get all along. If it were easy to do, there wouldn’t be recruiters in the first place and if were only mildly challenging I would have gotten bored and found something else to do long ago.
As a compliment to the work I do as a recruiter, I have developed training programs for schools and young adults through Reaching Hire. More about that on the Reaching Hire web site. Suffice it to say I am passionate about everything involved with Reaching Hire, too.
Enjoy your day and thanks for visiting!
